Lite & Fresh Strawberry Orange Pomegranate Mocktail with a Twist!
Who doesn’t love a tasty drink or two every now and then? Even if you follow a fairly healthy lifestyle, sipping on a beautifully crafted cocktail whipped up by a talented bartender feels like a real treat! But for those who don’t usually indulge in alcohol, there’s no need to miss out. Mocktails are popping up at trendy bars and restaurants everywhere, offering the same sophisticated and flavorful experience. And who says you can’t be the bartender and mix up your own fancy non-alcoholic beverages at home? Mocktails come together easily yet always impress. The key is pairing ingredients that work well together. For a little inspiration, try my Lite & Fresh Strawberry Orange Pomegranate Mocktail with a Twist!
For those who prefer a cocktail, a splash of vodka transforms it instantly. Either way, this bright, tangy drink gets an unexpected boost from a unique ingredient: vinegar! But not just any vinegar. Kosterina’s Crushed Strawberry Vinegar adds a tart, slightly sweet twist that takes the flavor to the next level. Kosterina’s vinegars have become a staple in my kitchen. They’re available with my link at Amazon or Whole Foods, and other retailers. With several flavors to choose from, you’re sure to find one you love!
This recipe has it all: fresh fruit, a surprising addition, and the perfect balance of sweet and citrusy notes. And since it’s packed with fruit, one might even say this mocktail is good for you!
HOW I MADE-OVER THIS MOCKTAIL:
I don’t use refined-sugar syrups. All the sweetness comes straight from the fruit. Many other recipes rely on artificial fruit juices packed with sugar, but I only use pure, fresh juice. The flavor is more concentrated and tastes so much better. I also prefer Spindrift sparkling water because it doesn’t contain any artificial or "natural" flavors, which can be made up of hundreds of chemicals.
Oranges provide vitamin C, fiber, and powerful antioxidants. Strawberries support immunity, are low in carbs, and can benefit conditions like diabetes and cholesterol. Pomegranates, a true superfruit, help improve blood pressure, reduce arthritis pain, and may even slow cancer growth. Vinegar aids in blood sugar regulation and supports weight loss. Who says drinks are just empty calories? Not this one!
This recipe is nut-free, gluten-free, refined-sugar-free, egg-free, soy-free, grain-free, paleo, vegetarian, and vegan.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
(Use organic ingredients when possible)
Oranges
Fresh orange juice
Pure pomegranate juice
Kosterina crushed strawberry vinegar
Spindrift strawberry lemonade sparkling water
Fresh fruit for garnish
THIS IS HOW YOU’LL MAKE IT:
I like to keep everything nicely chilled before making this drink. I start with the orange. Navel oranges are my go-to, but any variety works. Cut about an inch off the top and slice it into rounds; these will be used later for garnish. Next, cut the rind off the remaining orange and chop it into chunks. Divide the chunks between the two glasses.
Pour the orange juice into each glass, then add the pure pomegranate juice. I like R.W. Knudsen’s brand, which you can purchase with my link on Amazon or find at MOM’s Organic Market and Whole Foods.
Take a fork and muddle the orange chunks with the juices.
Add Kosterina’s Crushed Strawberry Vinegar to each glass, then toss in some ice.
Last but not least, top off each glass with Spindrift’s Strawberry Lemonade. The lemon flavor blends smoothly and won’t overpower the other ingredients.
For a cocktail version, just add a shot of your favorite vodka.
Give everything a good stir, then finish with an orange slice and a few pomegranate arils.
Bottoms up!
SERVING SUGGESTIONS:
Pour it over ice or frozen chunks of orange and strawberry. Garnish with an orange wedge, fresh strawberries, and pomegranate arils, if desired.
SUBSTITUTIONS, TIPS, AND NOTES:
I wouldn’t change too much with this one, or you won’t get the full flavor. If you leave out the crushed strawberry vinegar, you can substitute white wine vinegar since it’s one of the ingredients in Kosterina’s vinegars. I haven’t tried this myself, but if you do, let me know how it turned out in the comments.
Sometimes these flavors are out of stock on Amazon, so you may need to check back or purchase in-store.
STORAGE AND LEFTOVERS:
If you make a batch of this drink and have leftovers, wait to add the Spindrift until you're ready to serve it again. Otherwise, the carbonation will fizzle out.
NUTRITIONAL VALUES:
I don’t include nutritional values in my recipes because I believe in intuitive eating and balanced nutrition. Since ingredient brands can vary, the numbers aren’t always consistent. If you’d like a more accurate breakdown, I recommend entering this recipe into MyFitnessPal or a similar tracker.
