Superfood Banana Chocolate Cinnamon Walnut Protein Smoothie
I absolutely love smoothies! I have about 30 favorite recipes, and that number is steadily growing. They’re so easy to make, perfect for busy mornings or on-the-go snacks, and you can pack in a ton of nutrients. And as usual, I always manage to sneak in a veggie or two. I make these frozen treats for breakfast, snacks, and some are satisfying enough to double as dessert. But when I need a smoothie to be a full meal, I turn it into a high-protein smoothie. My Superfood Banana Chocolate Cinnamon Walnut Protein Smoothie is one of my favorites!
Protein powders can taste chalky, but I found one that tastes pretty great, comes in a variety of flavors, and has clean ingredients. If you haven’t heard of Truvani, let me introduce you to a brand I hope you love! I use their plant-based chocolate protein powder for this recipe, but you can use any healthy protein powder you prefer.
This smoothie is filled with nutrients and everything your body needs to refuel after a workout or enjoy anytime.
HOW I MADE-OVER THIS SMOOTHIE:
I only add clean, whole-food ingredients to my smoothies, and this one is no exception. It’s made with Truvani chocolate protein powder and contains no processed sugar. I also sneak in a few veggies like zucchini and cauliflower rice. And I promise, you won’t even taste them!
Zucchini is low in calories, high in fiber, and rich in antioxidants like vitamin C and beta-carotene. It supports digestion, immune function, and skin health. Cauliflower provides vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, and fiber, plus it’s a source of sulforaphane, a compound that helps reduce inflammation and may protect against certain cancers. Cinnamon is a powerful spice with anti-inflammatory properties and may help regulate blood sugar. Walnuts are packed with healthy fats, antioxidants, and omega-3s to support heart and brain health. And cacao nibs are loaded with antioxidants, magnesium, iron, and fiber, all of which promote brain function, heart health, and overall wellness. This is one superfood-packed recipe!
This recipe is gluten-free, refined-sugar-free, egg-free, soy-free, paleo, grain-free, vegetarian, and vegan.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
(Use organic ingredients when possible)
Milk of choice
Protein powder
Frozen banana
Frozen zucchini
Frozen cauliflower rice
Cinnamon
Walnuts
Cacao nibs
Stevia or preferred sweetener
Water
Ice if needed
THIS IS HOW YOU’LL MAKE IT:
It couldn’t be easier! Simply add everything to the blender except the cacao nibs and walnuts, and blend until smooth. I prefer adding the nibs and walnuts at the end to keep them as crunchy as possible. This way, you still get that texture you love!
Add the nibs and walnuts, then pulse a few times. For less crunch, blend a bit longer. The nibs will mostly stay intact.
If you’ve never tried cacao nibs before, I use Navitas Organics cacao nibs, available through my link on Amazon or at other retailers. You can also use whatever milk you like. I’ve made this smoothie with coconut, almond, oat, and even walnut milk.
I love Elmhurst and Malk brands because they use minimal ingredients and offer a wide variety of flavors.
For an even thicker consistency, blend in a few ice cubes. Taste and adjust the sweetness to your liking.
Pour into two glasses, sprinkle with cinnamon, and enjoy!

SERVING SUGGESTIONS:
Enjoy this smoothie for breakfast, as a nutritious dessert, a midday snack, or post-workout to support muscle recovery.
MITA’S MUST-KNOW TIP:
When perfecting any recipe, the right amount of salt, spices, and sweeteners depends on the size and flavor of the produce you use, and that might be different from what I used when I developed this recipe. Your zucchini might be tiny compared to mine, your strawberries could be on the verge of being jam, and your tomatoes might be less tomato-y than expected, so taste as you go! If you add more veggies or swap anything in, a little seasoning tweak might be needed. You can totally make this dish your own, and if you go a little overboard, you can probably fix it. But tasting often means you won’t need a backup plan… or a backup meal!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: I hate vegetables. Can I skip them?
A: What? You absolutely can, but I promise, you won’t even taste them in this smoothie!
Q: I’m out of walnuts. Can I use pecans?
A: Yep! Most nuts would pinch-hit here effortlessly. Just go with what you like.
STORAGE AND LEFTOVERS:
You can store any leftovers in the fridge or freeze half for later. Thaw for about 10 minutes, then stir or blend again until smooth.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Feel free to skip or swap the veggies if you prefer. Spinach works really well, too!
If you don’t have walnuts, you can use another nut that blends well—pecans, almonds, or cashews are all good options.
You can also replace stevia with maple syrup or coconut sugar. Just keep in mind that stevia is much sweeter, so you’ll need to use a bit more of the other sweeteners to achieve the same level of sweetness. I haven’t tried those swaps yet, so let me know in the comments if you do and how it turns out!
NUTRITIONAL VALUES:
I don’t include nutritional values in my recipes because I believe in intuitive eating and balanced nutrition. Since ingredient brands can vary, the numbers aren’t always consistent. If you’d like a more accurate breakdown, I recommend entering this recipe into MyFitnessPal or a similar tracker.

This was wonderful. I could not taste the zucchini nor the cauliflower rice. Bravo!
Thank you! I love adding zucchini and cauliflower to my smoothies for exactly that reason!
